Understanding
your estate
starts here.

Not financial advice. Heirloom is an educational platform. Our diagnostic tool illustrates concepts — it does not replace a licensed financial planner.

Mtho Ncube CFP®
Mtho NcubeCFP® · MCom
“Estate planning is not a conversation about death. It is a conversation about love — protecting the people and things that matter most to you.”

Mtho Ncube is a Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) and Chartered Banking Professional (CHBP) with over a decade of experience across financial planning, investment consulting, employee benefits, and estate planning. He holds a Master of Commerce in Investment Management, completed with distinction, and serves as a Retirement Fund Trustee across multiple umbrella funds.

Mtho created Heirloom out of a conviction that estate planning education in South Africa is too inaccessible, too jargon-heavy, and too often reserved for the wealthy. The platform exists to change that — offering clear, rigorous educational content to every South African, regardless of the size of their estate.

Please note: Heirloom is an independent educational platform. For personalised financial advice, Mtho operates in his professional capacity as a licensed financial services representative. Please reach out via the contact form to be connected appropriately.

What a valid Will requires, what happens without one, and why dying intestate almost never does what a family expects.
Estate Duty in South Africa
How estate duty is calculated, what the abatement means, what the s4(q) spousal bequest does, and why it matters for your family.
📈
CGT on Death (s9HA)
Why the tax authority treats death as a disposal of assets, and what the primary residence and annual exclusions actually do.
👪
Marriage Regimes & Your Estate
How COP, accrual, and ANC marriages affect what happens to your estate — including the often-misunderstood life partner position.
🏛
Trusts — When They Make Sense
The difference between inter vivos and testamentary trusts, what s7C means for your loan account, and when a trust actually helps.
💵
Retirement Funds & Your Estate
Why your RA, pension, and provident funds fall outside your estate, what s37C means, and why nominations matter more than your Will.
🌎
Offshore Assets & Cross-Border Planning

📋
Estate Liquidity & Life Cover
The most common estate planning failure explained — what happens when an estate cannot pay its obligations without selling assets.
Most South Africans are not avoiding estate planning because they do not care. They are avoiding it because no one has ever explained it to them in a way that makes sense. That is what Heirloom exists to fix.
